My Pocket 04:29
I’ve got a hole in the lining of my pocket I’ve got a heart so heavy, I think that I might drop it Got your voice still ringing in my ears I keep no photos inside my empty wallet I’ve got a thunder in my belly, so loud and I can’t stop it Got your touch on my fingertips When I wake up in the morning I wish that I could call you I leave my washing on the line when it’s storming I leave my keys in the door when I leave without warning I’ve got your smile in the front of my mind When I wake up in the morning I think that I might call you When I wake up in the morning I think that I should call you When I wake up in the morning You’d be the first to notice if my clothes need repairing My heart needs some love and caring Since you’ve been gone I am lost and there’s holes everywhere My keys, my coins, my matches and twine Can be oh so hard to find Without you I know that I Must sew up that hole in my own good time I’ve got a hole in the lining of my pocket I’ve got a heart so heavy, I think that I might drop it Got your voice still ringing in my ears When I wake up in the morning I think that I might call you When I wake up in the morning I think that I should call you When I wake up in the morning I wish that I should call you Cos I miss you like the breeze Or the sweet rain that’s falling When I wake up in the morning I forget that I can’t call you Cos you’re gone When I wake up in the morning When I wake up in the morning I’ve got a hole in the lining of my pocket I’ve got a heart so heavy, I think that I might drop it Got your voice still ringing in my ears

Let You In 04:35
As I’m soaring through the sky The fields are laid out Like a patchwork quilt That your nanna would make When times were simpler When times were simpler I am learning how to walk Learning how to see Learning a language That I used to speak Back when the days were long Under the Middle Eastern sun I know the words are there Buried in my mind There is an open door, to let you in And when you’re open to the world, you’ll be let in Strange familiar melodies Are tickling my ears Salt water sooths my skin As I’m reminded here Life could be simpler Life could be simpler Suddenly I see Suddenly I hear Suddenly I recall the words I held dear I watch the colour Drain into my world and realise I’m whole Seen it through painter’s eyes Now I am ready to come home There is an open door, to let you in And when you’re open to the world you’ll be let in Now I’m back in my hometown I’m wandering the streets Rediscovering the things That make my heart beat There is an open door, to let you in And when you’re open to the world, you’ll be let in

Look Up 03:06
You’ve been looking backwards On the things you wish you’d done I’ve been looking to the future Planning out all my fun We’ve both been looking sideways Staring at the ground Everyone’s looking through me Like inside they can be found If you don’t know if your efforts are enough I only know it’s best to look up Day is breaking lovely one It’s time to wake up The coffee’s strong, I know days are long But they can’t topple us It felt like a new beginning A new haircut and new jeans I sat in that friendly café Alone and happy If one thing left in life matters to us I only know it’s best to look up And like those little ants I just keep marching on Going ‘bout my business Smiling along And when we were together I showed you to look up Now that we’re apart I hope you haven’t given up If one thing left in life matters to us I only know it’s best to look up
4.
So big the world, so much distance The friends you have made so far away Everyone said come back And so you have come back After so long away And it’s strange Now there’s no light at the end of the tunnel I know that’s how it seems And you’re just waiting for real life And you’re just waiting to be let in And there’s pain So pick up your head It will be ok Sister don’t you Talk that way Cos your eyes they see All the light, it shines Even though it gets hidden sometimes How do we sit there and watch you struggle? How do we give when we can’t give enough? Nobody wants to see their loved-one in trouble Sometimes it feels like we’ve all given up And there’s shame So pick up your head It will be ok Sister don’t you Talk that way Cos your eyes they see All the light, it shines Even though it gets hidden sometimes
5.
I’m sending you off on your way To rewrite your story today There’s not a moment to waste It’s a new dawn, a shining new day Throw all your worries away Like they’re just loose change You don’t know it but you are brave So shake of the dust and raise I nearly crash my car Loose my heart Find it back with you again Put my head in a jar When I go too far I’m a seed in the wind I’m sending you off on your way To find light in the things that you say Big universe, you are strange I’m getting closer yet further each day Closer yet further each day Closer yet further each day I nearly crash my car Loose my heart Find it back with you again Put my head in a jar When I go too far I’m a seed in the wind

In Dreams 01:13

about

Little Wise’s blend of folk-roots music is a delicate interplay between sweetness and grit. Led by Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Sophie Klein, the outfit combines inviting storytelling with sophisticated guitar-work and spot-on female vocal harmonies. Klein’s vocal delivery is wistful but self assured. Whilst mostly a rhythm guitarist, she is a confident multi-instrumentalist, incorporating banjo, mandolin and slide guitar into her arrangements to evoke flavours of Lucinda Williams, Mia Dyson, The Waifs and James Taylor.

Joining Klein is Megan Bernard on electric guitar and backing vocals. A charismatic hybrid-pop singer-songwriter in her own right, Bernard is equally at home in the alt-country and folk-roots domain, gracefully decorating Klein’s songs with lush guitar tones. The pair share a palpable musical chemistry onstage emerging from years of musical friendship that feel more like decades. This cohesion is evident in their studio work on Sweet Rain Falling.

The six-track EP Sweet Rain Falling is a follow-up to Moments of Clarity (2012). Klein and Bernard's burgeoning partnership brings an evolution and maturity to the sound of this new release. The lead-track My Pocket is the result of a new collaboration with producer Kalju Tonuma and features a guest rhythm section of BJ Barker (The Yearlings) on drums and Daniel Hobson (The Stillsons) on electric bass. Written on her beloved 1962 Gibson J50 acoustic guitar, My Pocket shows Klein at her rawest and most vulnerable, sifting through the saddest and most beautifully profound experiences of grief. This tune features a larger and warmer live-band sound, with lap steel lines soaring over and around the vocals.

Whilst in the studio, a spontaneous eastern-fusion jam between Bernard, Klein and Tonuma was captured, which later became the outro track In Dreams.

The other four lovingly selected tracks on Sweet Rain Falling were self-recorded and produced by the duo at various makeshift home-studios across Victoria including a beach house in Jan Juc on the Surf Coast and bedrooms in Preston and Caulfield. These songs hold a more stripped-back sound, representative of the act’s live duo performance. The EP is more melancholic than previous material, but leaves the listener with feelings of hope and beauty.
